The stalwart band of travelers embark on a heroic journey through the land of Bleak. Willowmena and her friends travel in search of the Mountains of Tune, each of them seeking something they need in order to return to the world beyond. Willowmena finds her evil cousin compel her in an unholy alliance with the Miner of the Dark Pass and his pack of ruthless, slovenly wolves. In order to save her country, Willowmena must find the gift of her own gold and come to terms with a terrible secret from her past.
Deep in the heart of the Tune Mountains in the Land of Bleak, Willowmena sat at the feet of Daniel, the Nornae Chieftain. They were gazing into the magical rhinoceros Horn which Willowmena has had in her keeping ever since Gore, the magnificent red-eyed rhinoceros who the Horn belonged to, died at the hand of the evil Miner of the Dark Pass, who then cut away the Horn to use for his very dark and evil purposes. It was right and good that it belonged to her now because Willowmena and Gore had been the best of friends.
Find your gold, Willowmena,” the voice in The Great Horn of Gore decreed. “It is time. It must be done, and you must do it alone. It is a solitary journey.” These were the last words Willowmena heard from the Horn, the only thing she had left of her dear friend Gore, the magnificent red-eyed rhinoceros. It had belonged to him while he lived. Now it was never out of her possession. It had all kinds of magical properties, both known and unknown, and it kept her company in its strange way. Sometimes she could even hear Gore speaking to her through his Horn.
